Besides creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Abuhussein likes to create harmony between the dentofacial complex by addressing the deep lines and wrinkles in the face that can prevent her patients from looking their best. Soft tissues that ring the mouth are as important as perfectly restored teeth for an attractive and confident smile.

For older dental implant patients with facial aging, the corners of the mouth begin to turn down and wrinkles appear around the lips. Botox can be used by dentists to relax affected muscles to raise mouth corners and smooth wrinkles to assure successful and satisfying outcomes.

What is the Botox procedure like?

  • Receiving Botox only takes a few minutes
  • Anesthesia will not be necessary. A small needle will be used to inject the Botox into specific muscles and will give only minor discomfort.
  • It will generally take 7-14 days for the Botox to take full effect.
  • It is best to avoid alcohol 1 week before the procedure and also to stop taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medications 2 weeks before treatment to help prevent bruising.
  • It is best to avoid rubbing the injection site for 24 hours so the Botox does not spread to another area.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a natural and purified protein that relaxes facial muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance. Patients will feel little if any, discomfort after the procedure.

How long will the Botox last?

Botox injections last 3-5 months. After the procedure, muscle movement will slowly return to the treated areas over the coming months. As you receive regular Botox injections, your muscles will be trained to relax more, and the treatment will last a little longer.
